  • The ACRC participated in a panel discussion of the California Pesticide Container Recycling Law at the 14th Annual Pesticide Stewardship Alliance conference in San Diego.  Donna Marciano, California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR), reviewed the law and current results.   Ron Perkins provided ACRC perspective including how the ACRC had worked closely with the CDPR to optimize implementation. Linda Hendrickson, Crop production Services (CPS) provided ag retailer perspective and described CPS recycling programs in California and nationwide.
  • The ACRC Executive Board enjoyed a tour of USAg Recycling facilities in Waller, TX, in conjunction with their February meeting in Houston.  The tour gave board members a firsthand look at how pesticide container plastics are stored and washed in a safe and environmentally sound manner before being sold to ACRC approved end users.   • The ACRC has completed updates of its comprehensive process for evaluating potential end uses for recycled pesticide container plastics. Every potential new append use is subjected to a rigorous qualitative and quantitative evaluation process before being voted on by the ACRC Technical Committee. 

Upcoming Meetings

  • The ACRC will be participating in the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Conference & Trade Show (APRC 2014) in Marco Island, Florida, July 20-22, 2014.  APRC is a networking forum bringing Farmers, Nurseries, Agricultural Plastic Manufacturers, Recyclers and Government Officials together to discuss the solutions to the landfilling and open burning of waste agricultural plastics. Persons with responsibilities or interests in recycling ag plastics should benefit from attendance.
  • The ACRC Executive Board will meet August 6-7, 2014 in Portland, Oregon.  As part of the meeting, the board will tour the ag plastics recycling facilities of new ACRC contractor, Agri-Plas, in Brooks, OR.
  • The ACRC will be participating in the 13th Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) International Congress of Pesticide Chemistry sponsored by the American Chemical Society, Division of Agrochemicals.  It will be held at the ACS National Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco on August 10-14, 2014. The ACRC will be illustrating how it’s Risk Assessment Model (ACRC-RAM©) facilitates the quantitative determination of human and environmental risk associated with potential end uses of pesticide container plastic based on the types and amounts of chemical residues anticipated and the characteristics of the end-use products being considered.
  • The ACRC will participate in the CropLife International (CLI) Global Container Management meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, October 7-10, 2014.  The meeting provides the opportunity for container recycling program managers from around the globe to interact and exchange ideas for recycling containers in an efficient, effective and environmentally sound manner.
